Albinism Model

By knocking out the TYR gene in Tibetan miniature pigs, their hair and skin can be developed into white experimental animals, providing an excellent experimental animal platform for preclinical skin research.

Model Name
Albinism Model
Animal Strains
Tibetan Miniature Pig

Model Description

The biogenesis of melanin is initiated by a series of biological reactions catalyzed by tyrosinase (TYR), starting with the hydroxylation of tyrosine. The TYR gene is a critical gene in melanin synthesis, and mutations in the TYR gene result in a loss of tyrosinase activity, leading directly to albinism in animals.

Tibetan miniature pigs, due to their small size , skin anatomical properties and physiological properties closely resembling those of humans, that make them an excellent experimental miniature pig breed.

By knocking out the TYR gene in Tibetan miniature pigs, their hair and skin can be developed into white experimental animals, providing an excellent experimental animal platform for preclinical skin research.

Modeling Methods

Microinjection of sgRNA targeting the pig TYR gene along with Cas9 mRNA into fertilized eggs, followed by embryo transfer into surrogate mother pigs.

Testing items

  • Changes in skin and hair color
  • Histopathological analysis of tissues
