Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) Model

Model Name
Chronic Renal Failure (CRF)
Animal Strains
Rats
Methods
5/6 Nephrectomy-induced ; Adriamycin-induced nephropathy

Model Description

Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is a condition where kidney function gradually declines. It is caused by kidney damage from various diseases and eventually leads to end-stage renal disease, also known as uremia.

CRF models have been successfully induced in many animals (pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, sheep, dogs, rats, mice) using methods such as surgery, freezing, electrocoagulation, ligation, drugs, and immune interventions.

Modeling Methods

  • 1. 5/6 Nephrectomy (Platt Method)
  •  Remove 2/3 of the left kidney + right kidney.
  • Modeling period: 1 month.
  1. 2. Adriamycin Gavage
  • 300 mg/kg/day, administered consecutively for 21 days.
  • Modeling period: 21 days.

Testing items

  • General observations (body weight, blood pressure)
  • Renal function indicators
  • Renal pathology
