Model Description

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a critical precursor to pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), with 70% of PTE cases originating from lower limb DVT. Our IVC thrombosis model in rabbits replicates human DVT pathology, enabling:

Modeling Protocol —— Spiral Copper Wire-Induced IVC Thrombosis

1. Surgical Procedure:

  • Midline laparotomy under ketamine/xylazine anesthesia (35/5 mg/kg)
  • IVC exposure: Isolate infrarenal IVC segment
  • Copper wire insertion: Place custom spiral copper wire (0.5mm diameter) into IVC lumen
  • Close abdomen with layered sutures

2. Thrombosis Induction:

  • Mechanism: Endothelial damage + foreign body reaction
  • Thrombus maturation: 24-hour observation period
